Stuart, FL (PRWEB) June 01, 2013

As Martin County schools get ready to close for the summer, Stuart car accident attorney Philip DeBerard, III, is urging students and parents to make end-of-year celebrations and vacation safe and free of accidents.

This is a wonderful time of year, especially for school kids, but unfortunately, its also a time when we see many accidents involving children, teenagers and young adults, said DeBerard of the law firm of Philip DeBerard, Injury Attorney, in Stuart.

Parents can surely keep some teens from hurting themselves or others, perhaps their own child, by taking the time to remind them to avoid speeding, distracted driving and drinking and driving, DeBerard continued. Even though it may be hard to recognize sometimes, teenagers do respect and listen to what their parents have to say.

DeBerard said material presented by Carole Copeland Thomas, MBA, CDMP, the founder of Student Safety Month each June, can help parents initiate discussions.

Thomas started Student Safety Month after her 16-year-old son died in a June 1997 car accident. Within days of her sons death, two other teens she knew died in a car accident and a third drowned while trying to save another teenager who also drowned, according to Thomas website.

DeBerard, whose firm pursues personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits on behalf of car crash victims in South Florida and the Treasure Coast, said the Florida Sheriffs Association has declared that fatal car accidents involving teenagers have reached epidemic proportions in the state of Florida.

The Florida Sheriffs Association says the state has the countrys highest rate of crash involvement among drivers age 15 to 19 years old, highest rate of teens involved in fatal car crashes and the second-highest rate of alcohol-related crashes among teenagers.

DeBerard noted that Martin County High School in Stuart recently staged a mock DUI car crash to demonstrate the dangers of drinking and driving, which is one of Thomas Student Safety Month event suggestions, according to an April 24 story by WPTV in Palm Beach.

In addition to the moral and criminal consequences of drinking and driving and then causing a car accident, parents should tell their teenage children about the civil liability they could face after a car accident that they caused with careless or reckless driving, DeBerard said.

The veteran lawyer said the Philip DeBerard, Injury Attorney, law firm works to promote safe driving practices in the hope of reducing accidents, injuries and deaths, but sees it as its mission to seek justice for those who are harmed by careless and reckless drivers in Stuart and surrounding areas on the Treasure Coast.

We dont want to see young adults hurt in car wrecks or other accidents, and we dont want to see teenagers harm themselves and their futures by causing an accident, DeBerard said.

But we will, above all, stand up for those who have been unjustly harmed by another persons carelessness and recklessness, and see to it that they are compensated for their losses, he said.

If you have been hurt by a drunk driver, distracted driver or a speeding driver, regardless of their age, the car accident attorneys of Philip DeBerard, Injury Attorney, are ready to go after them on your behalf.
